History at Easton
Intent:
Children should…
- Gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world which helps to stimulate children’s curiosity to know more about the past.
 - Understand their place in modern Britain including the historic factors that led Easton to be what it is today including empire, slavery, World War II and post war migration.
 - Develop a chronological framework to support them in building a picture of the past and how that has shaped the world we live in.
 - Develop enquiry skills through the study of historical events by using and interpreting a range of primary and secondary sources.
 - Understand the historical concepts of cause and effect, change and development as well as significance and interpretation.
 - Think critically to engage with, question and develop a deeper understanding of the past.

Implementation:
We will work to achieve our aim through:
- Developing our children’s knowledge of key events, vocabulary, significant people and facts.
 - A skills progression mapping historical skills across the school encompassing 7 strands - Chronology, historical enquiry, historical terms, interpretation, continuity and change similarity and difference, cause and consequence and significance.
 - Ensuring progression in knowledge by children ‘being Historians’ in every lesson, enabling them to ask and answer questions through investigations and research
 - Using assessment for learning to plan effective sequences of lessons that build on previous knowledge both throughout a unit and over time across the school
 - Using knowledge organisers to embed key facts and regularly review substantive knowledge
 - Addressing misconceptions using questioning and regular review of learning
