Religion and Worldviews (RWV) at Easton
As a Church of England Primary school, we follow the Church of England’s Statement of Entitlement for Religious Education. It aims:
To enable children to know about and understand Christianity as a living faith that has most shaped British culture and heritage
To help children to know and understand a range of religions and worldviews alongside their impact on the wider world.
To contribute to the development of children’s own spiritual/philosophical beliefs and values.
As a school we also want to prepare children for the diverse landscape of modern Britain; welcoming those of all faiths or none. Especially within the context of Easton.
Intent
Religion and Worldviews (RWV) is focussed on providing all children with a values-led education through a supportive ethos where children develop their own sense of community and identity. This follows our School Vision, “Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
Embodied in our school phrase: being different, belonging together.
To enable the children to develop their understanding for a range of different beliefs, religions and worldviews.
To enable children to agree or disagree respectfully, recognising that different people have different beliefs, both religious and non-religious, and that these should be respected.
To develop children’s knowledge of different places of worship, and where these are located in our community alongside a range of religious celebrations.
To recognise that different religions have different stories and individuals that are of key importance.
To develop our children as critical thinkers, empowering them to demonstrate courageous advocacy and develop their spirituality.
To enable children to make connections between religions and develop their cultural understanding and respect.
Implementation
We follow two schemes – Understanding Christianity and RE Today.
Below is a document showing the yearly overview. Understanding Christianity is highlighted in red and RE Today in blue.
This outlines the big questions that are explored each term for each year group.
The children have weekly RWV sessions alongside extra time on I Wonder.
Educational visits will support the children's learning and they have an opportunity to different places of worship.
The Wire Award Gold
At the end of July 2023, we were proudly awarded the Wire Award Gold. This is an award to recognise excellence in RWV in our school. Here is a link to the website should you wish to know more.
