Religion and Worldviews (RWV) at Easton
The RWV team in school consists of Claire Tawney (Y5) and Forida Ahmed (Reception).
As a Church of England Primary School, we follow the Church of England Statement of Entitlement for Religious Education. It aims:
To enable children to know about and understand Christianity as a living faith that has shaped British culture and heritage.
To help children to know and understand a range of religions and worldviews alongsider their impact on the wider world.
To contribute to the development of children’s own spiritual/philosophical beliefs and values.
As a school we also want to prepare children for the diverse landscape of modern Britain; welcoming those of all faiths or none. Especially within the context of Easton.
Intent
At Easton, our RWV curriculum is designed to foster a deep understanding of diverse beliefs, values, and traditions. We aim to nurture respectful, thoughtful, and informed individuals who can engage meaningfully with the world around them. Through the study of major world religions and non-religious worldviews, students develop critical thinking, empathy, and moral reasoning. Our intent is to provide a safe and inclusive space where pupils explore questions of meaning, identity, and purpose, preparing them to become responsible global citizens.
This is inspired by our School Vision Being Different, Belonging Together and Bible verse Micah 6:8 “Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.”
Implementation
RWV is delivered through two complementary schemes: Understanding Christianity and RE Today. These schemes provide a rich and balanced curriculum that enables pupils to explore key theological concepts and worldviews in a structured and engaging way.
Our yearly overview outlines the progression of learning across all year groups, with Understanding Christianity units highlighted in red and RE Today units in blue. Each term, pupils investigate a ‘Big Question’ that encourages deep thinking, discussion, and reflection on religious beliefs, practices, and values.
Children participate in weekly RWV (Religions and Worldviews) sessions, which are enhanced by dedicated time for ‘I Wonder’ activities—a space for curiosity, philosophical inquiry, and personal reflection. See the Spirituality page for more detail.
To enrich classroom learning, pupils also take part in educational visits to a variety of places of worship, offering real-world experiences that deepen their understanding of faith communities and promote respect for diversity.
The Wire Award Gold
At the end of July 2023, we were proudly awarded the Wire Award Gold. This is an award to recognise excellence in RWV in our school. Here is a link to the website should you wish to know more.
Withdrawal from RWV
You have the right to withdraw your child from RWV teaching at Easton. To do this you must speak with the Head Teacher in a formal meeting. If this is the case, parents are expected to provide work of a religious nature for their child to complete during the weekly 1hr RWV lesson.
